Bill Mounce has a practical and informative post at Koinonia on translating New Testament Greek into English.  He writes in response to a question he was asked about translating airo in John 15:2 (“He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.”)
