Philosophy Audio and Video on the Web

Here’s a fine post by a great website/blog, Open Culture, listing several philosophy courses and resources on the Internet (below my comments).  One of the best listed here is Philosophy Bites, which posts podcasts on a regular basis of interviews with well-known philosophers, mainly from the U.K.

Hubert Dreyfus is a good lecturer and the videos by Marianne Talbot are informative and engaging.

It would be great if there were more lectures available in philosophy of religion out there.  For a good survey, Paul Copan’s five-session course is available free from Reclaiming the Mind Ministries.  Ron Nash’s History of Philosophy and Christian Thought is available at biblicaltraining.org (which has nearly an entire seminary curriculum on mp3 available to download).  Also, the website Closer to the Truth has a great collection of video interviews with Christian and non-Christian philosophers on topics in philosophy of religion.

And, the blog Apologetics 315 has probably the best ongoing list of audio and video resources in apologetics (which often overlaps with philosophy) that I’m aware of.

If you know of any other good audio or video resources in philosophy, especially philosophy of religion, please leave a comment.

Philosophy doesn’t have to be daunting. Thanks to the Continuing Education program at Oxford University, you can ease into philosophical thinking by listening to five lectures collectively called Philosophy for Beginners. (Find them on iTunesU in audio and video). Taught by Marianne Talbot, Lecture 1 starts with a “Romp Through the History of Philosophy” and moves in a brief hour from Ancient Greece to the present. Subsequent lectures (usually running about 90 minutes) cover the following topics: logic, ethics, politics, metaphysics, epistemology, and language. For those hankering for more philosophy, I’ve listed below a series of more advanced philosophy courses and also some philosophy podcasts. (You can get more free university courses here and intelligent podcasts here).
